Coryphaena hippurus in the Gulf of Corinth

Common dolphinfish Coryphaena hippurus, also called dorado or mahi mahi, swim in a rank formation in the Gulf of Corinth's blue waters. They are one of the ocean's most magnificent fish, and seeing them alongside our boat was a pleasant surprise. These were three juveniles, about 60 cm long.

Farai moves on

Mary-Anne (Farai) Churu, a Texas A&M University student who participated in the Marine Biology Field Course organised in Galaxidi in 2013, just informed us that she was accepted to law school and awarded a scholarship. Farai wants to focus on environmental law. She writes: "Thank you for inspiring me to be a part of a community that wants to do more for the environment than just take".

A loggerhead sea turtle lifts her right flipper while mating with another turtle (not visible here). From the beginning of the season we have encountered as many as 120 loggerheads: a lot more than in previous years.

Little owl family

A couple of little owls Athene noctua have nested in a chimney near our field station, and made two chicks. The chicks have grown and we seem them around all the time. This is one of the four family members resting on an almond tree.
