Newborn bottlenose dolphin Xidi

Today we encountered this baby dolphin: the first newborn bottlenose dolphin we ever observed in the Gulf of Corinth since 2009. It was the tiniest and most vulnerable little thing. Observed near Galaxidi with the mother and seven other adults, we nicknamed her/him Xidi.

Dolphin Biology Weeks

There are still places available for those who want to participate in our 'Dolphin Biology Weeks' in July and August.

This one-week programme will provide you with opportunities of monitoring dolphins and other fauna in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece, together with experienced marine biologists who have been studying Mediterranean cetaceans for a long time.

Inquisitive sea turtle

Loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta appear to be increasing in the Gulf of Corinth, where we encounter them more and more often.

Yesterday this large individual inquisitively approached our motionless boat for a while. Then he realised what it was, and dived.

We documented what looked like grieving behaviour by a striped dolphin Stenella coeruleoalba towards an adult or subadult conspecific.

The event was filmed during a Marine Biology Field Course by Texas A&M University, organised in collaboration with OceanCare in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece.
